48th SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference

Clover Burt wins GOLD as CTE Students Compete and Win in Kansas City, MO

Eighteen CTE students traveled to Kansas City MO this past June to compete at the SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference. This year was the 48th annual event and was attended by more than 15,000 students, teachers and parents from around the country. An estimated 6,000 students earned the right to compete at this national competition by being selected the best in their field during state-level competitions held this past spring. Hands-on competitions in which students compete against each other and against the clock were held in 98 different technical career and leadership skills areas. Our team of students included Anna Giannuzzi and Emily Doubleday competing in Web Design; Joshua Mooney for Internetworking; James Bayne, Fred LeBlanc, Nick Atherton and Ashley George for Quiz Bowl; Sarah Buzzell and Clover Burt for Customer Service; Brian Nadeau for Technical Drafting; Katelyn Chambers for her Pin Design; Marissa Achee competed in Cosmetology; Dylan Brady and Devin Lowell competed in 3-D Animation; Eva Duvic for Dental Assisting and Ashley Antoniak attended as a Vermont State Officer.

The CTE team had an outstanding experience and fabulous results.

Five of the CTE competitors placed in the top 10 in the nation and two placed in the top 20 in the nation for their skills fields. The results included:

  • Marissa Achee, Cosmetology 2 placed 18th for Cosmetology
  • Katelyn Chambers, Computer Animation and Web Design placed 14th with her Vermont State Pin Design
  • Dylan Brady and Devin Lowell, Computer Animation and Web Design placed 6th in 3D Animation
  • Sarah Buzzell, Health Informatics placed 6th in Customer Service
  • Anna Guannuzzi and Emily Doubleday, Computer Animation and Web Design placed 5th in Web Design
  • Eva Duvic, Dental Assisting placed 5th in Dental Assisting
  • Clover Burt, Dental Assisting placed first in the Nation and won the gold medal for Customer Service.

We are incredibly proud of all our student competitors. It is a huge accomplishment to win on the state level. To compete against the nation’s best students in your career field is an amazing opportunity. Having so many students place within the top 20 of those students is a true measure of the excellent work our students and teachers do each year at the center.
